Matthew Berliner is currently the Acting 4th horn of the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. He was the Acting 2nd horn from 2019 to 2022. From 2014 to 2017 he played both Acting Principal horn and Acting Associate Principal/3rd horn in the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra in Honolulu. He has also played with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Macau Orchestra, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle's commercial recording studios, New World Symphony, and as Guest Principal horn with the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra. At Seattle's 5th Avenue and Paramount Theatres he has played a variety of Broadway musicals including national tour stops of Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. Summer engagements have included playing with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, Lancaster Festival Orchestra, and teaching at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Alaska.

Matthew holds a M.M. from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music where he studied with William VerMeulen. He earned a B.M. from Oberlin Conservatory where he studied with Roland Pandolfi and a B.A. from Oberlin College in Environmental Studies. In addition, he studied with David W. Johnson at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland and was a Rebanks Family Fellow at The Royal Conservatory's Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto.
